Botulinum toxin/Botox®
Botulinum toxin/Botox® is a purified substance that blocks muscle nerve signals. When injected into the facial muscles it reduces its activity, reducing wrinkles. It is primarily used to reduce frontal and periorbital wrinkles, but may also be indicated for other muscle groups or reduction of axillar, palmar or plantar hypersudoresis (palms or soles).
Botulinum Toxin/Botox® is used to prevent or treat expression wrinkles.
The results are visible on the 4th day. It will last for 4 to 6 months.
Pre-treatment
- Bruising can be decreased by stopping medications that inhibit clotting 10-14 days before treatment. These include aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and vitamin E.
- A local anesthetic may be applied in the face 1 hour before the procedure.
Post-treatment
- Return to work immediately after the procedure
- Avoid sun exposure
- Avoid intensive physical activity for 24 hours
